The living horticultural museum in Aalsmeer, called 'The historical gardens', shows the development of horticulture in Aalsmeer; from the arboriculture of the seventeenth century to the shrubs, ornamental trees, ancient roses and finally to the 20th century varieties of flowers.

Westeinderplassen/ Westeinder lakes
One third of the municipality is taken up by the Westeinder lakes. These lakes are ideal for rowing, surfing, sailing and swimming. Those with a license can drive a motorboat or go water skiing. Boats are available for hire. There is a recreation park for day-trippers at Vrouwentroost, which boasts a grassy field, picnic places and surfing facilities. The Oosteinder lakes are a protected nature reserve with a wide diversity of flora and nesting sites for birds. It is freely accessible by boat.
In addition Aalsmeer has two swimming baths, the indoor and outdoor pool 'De Waterlelie' and the natural swimming pool 'Het Oosterbad'.
